The KENNAMETAL 1785741 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the ANSI designation TNGP332 and grade KC5410. It features a TiB2 (titanium diboride) PVD coating engineered for high wear resistance when machining aluminum and other non-ferrous metals. The insert has a 60-degree triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation and a honed cutting edge style. With six usable cutting edges, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it is sized for light to medium material removal on CNC lathes and machining centers. This insert is part of the KENLOC series and is held in place by a clamp and pin method.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals, with aluminum being the primary workpiece material. The KC5410 grade is rated for high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance with adequate toughness, making it well suited for finishing and medium machining passes on aluminum components in both production and job-shop environments. The chip breaker geometry supports medium machining conditions. Machinists and CNC operators working with non-ferrous aerospace, automotive, or general manufacturing parts will find this insert appropriate for those applications.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept TNGP-style triangular inserts with a clamp and pin holding method, conforming to ANSI designation TNGP332 and ISO designation TNGP160408.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp to ensure proper edge presentation. Inspect the pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris prior to installation, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure.
