The KENNAMETAL 1785717 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNGP431 geometry, grade KC5410, designed for high-speed turning, facing, and boring of non-ferrous metals and aluminum. It carries a TiB2 coating applied via PVD process, which delivers high wear resistance while maintaining toughness suited to medium machining conditions. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a honed cutting edge style. With four usable cutting edges per insert and a negative rake and negative side clearance, this insert fits standard KENLOC-style clamp-and-pin toolholders used in production turning environments.
This insert is intended for machining non-ferrous metals, primarily aluminum and other N-group materials, across light-to-medium depth-of-cut applications. The KC5410 grade is rated for high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance with toughness, making it well-suited to production turning cells and CNC lathes handling aluminum components. Typical applications include external turning, facing passes, and light boring operations. The CNGP431 geometry follows both ANSI and ISO standards, allowing use on any compatible toolholder system accepting that insert form factor.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders and any ANSI- or ISO-compliant clamp-and-pin turning toolholder accepting the CNGP431 insert geometry. Compatible with multi-use turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous and aluminum workpieces. Insert holding method requires both clamp and pin retention.
This insert is installed by a machinist or toolroom technician on a CNC or manual lathe using a KENLOC-compatible clamp-and-pin toolholder. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or indexing any insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation, as contamination affects edge runout and tool life. Index only to undamaged cutting edges and discard the insert when all four edges show wear beyond acceptable limits.
