The KENNAMETAL 1785714 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBGT332HP geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and graded KC5010. It carries a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a 5-degree relief angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The HP chip breaker is configured for finishing operations, delivering a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a honed cutting edge for clean, controlled cuts. With two usable cutting edges and a screw-on holding method, this insert is suited for high-wear-resistance applications across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. Machinists and CNC turning specialists working in production or job-shop environments will find it a direct fit for demanding finishing passes.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Its KC5010 grade targets steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and superalloys and titanium (S and N codes), covering a broad range of primary workpiece materials. Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or swapping inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to snug the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating torque — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for debris or wear before each insert change.
