The KENNAMETAL 1785474 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCGT2151HP geometry with KC5010 grade and PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The insert is neutral-hand, screw-on style, with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a honed cutting edge. At 7.75 mm in length and 3/32-inch thickness, it is engineered for finishing operations with high wear resistance across a range of primary workpiece materials. Machinists and CNC tool setters install this insert in compatible DCGT-style toolholders for precision finishing passes.
This insert is suited for finishing applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, as well as cast iron and aluminum. Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on CNC lathes and turning centers. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to moderate depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). It is a multi-use insert appropriate for both production and job-shop environments where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical.
Designed for use in DCGT2151-style screw-on toolholders. Conforms to ANSI insert code DCGT2151 and ISO insert code DCGT070204. Compatible with workpiece materials coded P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum and non-ferrous), and S (superalloys and titanium).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tool setters. Power down and secure the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque screwdriver specified for the toolholder to seat the screw-on insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and dimensional accuracy.
