The KENNAMETAL 1783237 is a DNMG431FW solid carbide turning insert in the KC5010 grade, designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding CNC lathe and turning center applications. The insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting temperatures. It carries a 55-degree diamond shape, negative rake geometry, and a honed cutting edge style. With four available cutting edges and a 0.0156-inch corner radius, this insert delivers consistent performance across extended production runs. Licensed HVAC techs or machinists running high-volume steel or stainless operations will find the FW chip breaker geometry well-suited to continuous and interrupted cuts.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and S. It belongs to the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series and is held using a clamp and pin insert holding method. The KC5010 grade with PVD TiAlN coating is optimized for applications where edge integrity and thermal stability are critical, such as finishing and semi-finishing passes on difficult-to-machine alloys. This insert is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of five.
Designed as a replacement or production-supply insert for KENLOC-series toolholders accepting DNMG style inserts. Compatible with toolholder systems conforming to ANSI and ISO DNMG431 insert standards. Suitable for use across turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians on CNC lathes and turning centers. Always power down the machine and lock out the spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when securing the clamp; do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and edge geometry.
