The KENNAMETAL 1775997 is a solid carbide round milling insert designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. Carrying the ANSI and ISO designation RDHX12T3M0SGN, this insert features a TiAlN PVD coating applied over a solid carbide substrate, delivering excellent wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The round (RDHX) insert geometry provides a 360-degree included angle with four usable cutting edges, a neutral hand orientation, a positive rake configuration, and a 15-degree relief angle. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style reduces chipping and extends tool life in interrupted cuts. It is installed by licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians in milling operations across production and job-shop settings.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, covering material grade classifications C5, C6, and C7 (ISO application codes P, M, and S). The GN chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip flow across this range of workpiece materials. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and contour milling where a round insert profile is preferred for smooth surface finish and edge strength. The screw-holding method provides secure clamping and repeatable indexing during high-feed operations.
Designed for use with the Kennametal KDM-12 cutter series. Confirm insert pocket geometry and screw torque specifications against the applicable toolholder documentation before installation.
Installation should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key per the toolholder manufacturer's documentation — do not use substitutes that may damage the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket seat for debris or damage before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatable tool runout.
