The KENNAMETAL 1765732 is a carbide threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 8 threads per inch (TPI). Manufactured to the NTC3R8E geometry in the Top Notch series, this insert features a TiAlN finish applied via PVD coating, which improves wear resistance and tool life in a wide range of threading applications. The insert carries a 60-degree included angle, a corner radius of 0.0161 inches, and a thickness of 0.1949 inches. It is specified in manufacturer grade KC5025, a coated carbide grade suited for threading ferrous and non-ferrous materials at production volumes. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary users.
This insert is intended for external threading operations on UN-standard fastener and component threads at 8 TPI. The right-hand cut geometry makes it appropriate for standard right-hand thread profiles on turning centers and manual lathes equipped with Top Notch-style toolholders. It is suited for use in production shops, job shops, and maintenance machining environments where consistent thread form and repeatable insert indexing are required. The TiAlN coating supports dry cutting and higher cutting speeds compared to uncoated grades.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders that accept NTC3 style inserts for external threading. Specific toolholder compatibility should be confirmed against the Top Notch system toolholder catalog prior to installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC lathe operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified for the Top Notch toolholder system - do not over-tighten the clamping screw, as this can cause insert cracking. Verify thread pitch, insert orientation, and toolholder alignment before resuming cutting operations.
