The KENNAMETAL 1743966 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal NPT thread cutting operations. Running under ISO code LT11NR18NPT and manufacturer grade KC5025, this insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which improves wear resistance and thermal stability during threading. It cuts at 18 threads per inch (TPI) with a right-hand orientation, making it suitable for producing standard NPT taper pipe threads in a lathe or CNC turning center. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, and the insert thickness is 0.126 inches (3.04 mm). Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments install this insert on compatible toolholders.
This insert is used for internal threading on a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The KC5025 grade with TiAlN PVD coating is well suited for these demanding materials where edge integrity and coating adhesion are critical. Typical applications include threading pipe fittings, hydraulic components, and fluid-system housings that require NPT taper thread forms. It fits NR-style insert seats in size 11 toolholders designed for laydown threading geometry.
Designed for use in NR-style, size 11 laydown threading toolholders. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping configuration before use.
This insert is installed and changed by machinists or CNC lathe operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure — do not overtighten or impact-drive the clamping screw. Confirm insert orientation and thread hand match the programmed tool path before resuming cutting.
