The KENNAMETAL 1743799 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external API Round thread cutting operations. Running at 8 threads per inch with a right-hand orientation, this insert seats in standard LT16ER-style toolholders and is suited for oil country and industrial threading applications. The KC5025 grade substrate is paired with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, providing resistance to heat and wear during intermittent or continuous threading passes. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.1430-inch thickness conform to standard 16ER insert geometry, making it a direct fit for compatible tooling systems on CNC lathes and threading machines.
This insert is applied in external threading of pipe and coupling stock conforming to API Round thread specifications. Typical installations include oilfield tubular goods machining, coupling threading, and similar applications where API Round thread form accuracy is critical. Licensed machinists and CNC turning operators in oil and gas, energy, and heavy industrial shops are the primary users. The TiAlN coating supports performance in both dry and minimal-quantity-lubrication cutting environments.
