The KENNAMETAL 1727476 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation SDKT1204EDERGP and ANSI designation SDKT43EDER8GP. Manufactured in the KC725M grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, it is engineered for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The insert features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, a positive rake of 30 degrees, a 15-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge. With four usable cutting edges on a single-sided body, it delivers consistent performance in demanding interrupted and continuous cut conditions. Installation is performed by a licensed machinist or toolroom professional using a standard torx or hex screw into compatible SDKT-style milling bodies.
This insert is suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling applications where the primary workpiece materials are steel (P-grade), stainless steel (M-grade), superalloys, and titanium (S-grade). The GP chip breaker geometry supports a broad range of depths of cut up to 0.4724 inches, making it applicable across roughing and semi-finishing passes. It is a right-hand insert held by screw and is compatible with SDKT-series milling cutter bodies. Typical applications include production machining environments and job shop operations requiring a versatile carbide insert across multiple material groups.
Designed for use in SDKT-series milling cutter bodies that accept a screw-held, single-sided square insert with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch thickness. Verify cutter body insert pocket specifications before indexing.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw as specified by the cutter body manufacturer, and do not overtighten the screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper support and edge engagement.
