The KENNAMETAL 1712563 is a laydown-style carbide threading insert designed for single-point external UN thread cutting on CNC lathes and threading machines. Carrying the ISO code LT16ER8UNCB and manufactured in grade KC5010, it cuts right-hand external threads at 8 threads per inch (TPI) to UN thread standard. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that provides heat resistance and wear life across a broad range of workpiece materials. With a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle and a measured thickness of 0.1430 inches (3.44 mm), this is a precision ground, production-grade insert suited for shop floor threading operations in high-mix or high-volume environments.
This insert is intended for external UN thread profiles on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The CB chipbreaker geometry supports controlled chip formation during threading passes. Typical applications include threading of hydraulic fittings, fasteners, pipe adapters, and precision mechanical components on manual or CNC turning equipment. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in job shops, production facilities, and MRO environments where consistent thread form and surface finish are required.
Designed for use in ER insert-style laydown threading toolholders accepting a size 16 insert with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the correct clamping screw and torque driver specified for the toolholder to secure the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Verify thread form with a thread gauge after the first pass before committing to a full production run.
