The KENNAMETAL 1712556 is a laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal UN threads on CNC lathes and threading machines. Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, it carries the KC5025 grade designation and is configured for right-hand internal threading at 16 threads per inch. The insert measures 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) inscribed circle diameter and 0.1260 inches (3.04 mm) in thickness. The TiAlN finish improves wear resistance and tool life when threading steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Machinists and CNC toolroom technicians use this insert in production and job-shop environments where thread accuracy and insert consistency are critical.
This insert is suited for internal UN thread applications across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys and titanium. The NR insert style with CB chipbreaker geometry is appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole threading operations on lathes equipped with compatible toolholders. At 16 TPI, this insert is commonly applied to fastener-thread profiles in the 1/4-inch to 3/8-inch diameter range. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it appropriate for toolroom stock or production replenishment.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL and compatible laydown threading toolholders accepting the LT11 insert size. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping style before installation. ISO code LT11NR16UNCB may be used for direct cross-reference to equivalent holder specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the machine fully stopped and in a de-energized, locked-out state before any insert change. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and torque the clamp screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before securing the insert, as contamination can affect thread form accuracy. Follow all applicable shop safety procedures when handling carbide inserts due to sharp cutting edges.
