The KENNAMETAL 1624156 is a CNMG321FF KC5010 solid carbide turning insert with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The KC5010 grade delivers high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance with toughness across steel, stainless steel, and superalloy workpiece materials. This is a finishing-geometry insert intended for turning, facing, and boring operations. It is installed and indexed by licensed machinists and CNC operators on production and job-shop lathes. Each insert provides four usable cutting edges, making it an efficient choice for high-volume finishing passes.
This insert is suited for precision finishing cuts on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and aluminum. It fits KENLOC-style toolholders that accept CNMG-configuration inserts with a clamp-and-pin holding method. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand and left-hand toolholder setups where CNMG geometry is specified. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing shoulders, and finish boring on CNC lathes and turning centers in both residential machine shops and industrial production environments. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), consistent with a finishing-grade geometry.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG321 inserts with clamp-and-pin mounting. Conforms to ANSI insert code CNMG321 and ISO insert code CNMG090304. Compatible with toolholders specifying clearance code N, tolerance code M, and a 0.1500-inch hole diameter. Suitable for multi-use application in turning, facing, and boring operations.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Always index or replace inserts with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating pin for the KENLOC clamp system to ensure proper insert seating and prevent movement under cutting load. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause premature edge failure or dimensional inaccuracy.
