The KENNAMETAL 1623274 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for high-efficiency machining of non-ferrous metals and aluminum. Carrying the ANSI designation TCGT3251HP and ISO code TCGT16T304, this insert features a TiB2 (titanium diboride) PVD coating that delivers high wear resistance suited to finishing operations. The triangular insert geometry offers three cutting edges, a 60-degree included angle, a 7-degree relief angle, and a positive rake angle of 15 degrees. The HP chip breaker and honed cutting edge style make this insert well suited for light finishing cuts at close tolerances. It installs via screw-on holding method and is classified as neutral-hand.
This insert is intended for finishing applications on aluminum and non-ferrous metals (ISO material group N) across turning, facing, and boring operations. Its positive side clearance and positive rake reduce cutting forces and minimize built-up edge on soft, gummy materials. The 0.0492-inch maximum depth of cut and 0.0156-inch corner radius make it appropriate for light, precision finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. It is used by machinists and CNC turning specialists in job shop and production environments alike.
Designed for use in screw-on style turning toolholders accepting TCGT-style triangular inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Compatible with toolholder systems conforming to ANSI TCGT3251 and ISO TCGT16T304 seat specifications. Intended for primary use on non-ferrous metals and aluminum (ISO workpiece material group N).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket walls before tightening the clamping screw to avoid insert rocking or chipping. Inspect the insert pocket and screw for wear or damage at each indexing interval.
