The KENNAMETAL 1606908 is a replaceable-tip drill body engineered for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. Part of the KSEM series, this drill accepts KSEM1375 insert tips at insert seat size 9, allowing quick tip changes without removing the body from the spindle. The body supports a drill diameter range of 34.93 to 35.93 mm (1.3752 to 1.4146 inches) and reaches a maximum drill depth of 174.5 mm (6.87 inches), representing a 5xD depth-to-diameter ratio. Through-coolant delivery via a 6.00 mm (0.2362 inch) coolant hole keeps the cutting zone clear and extends tip life. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production shops are the primary users.
This drill body is suited to medium-to-large diameter deep-hole drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces on CNC machining centers and turning centers with through-spindle coolant capability. The 38.10 mm straight-cylindrical shank interfaces directly with standard hydraulic, shrink-fit, or mechanical chuck toolholders sized for that shank diameter. The 5xD depth capability places this tool in applications such as fixture bores, bearing housings, and structural through-holes where a single-pass deep bore is required. Overall length of 330.2 mm (13.00 inches) and a flute length of 230.89 mm (9.09 inches) allow adequate chip evacuation throughout the full depth range.
Designed for use with KSEM1375 series replaceable insert tips at insert seat size 9 within the KSEM drill system. The body accepts drill diameter settings from 34.93 to 35.93 mm depending on the tip selected. Maximum drill depth range spans 160.00 to 200.00 mm (6.00 to 8.00 inches) across compatible tip configurations.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the drill body or changing insert tips. Verify the toolholder bore matches the 38.10 mm shank diameter and that the coolant port aligns with the machine's through-spindle coolant supply before clamping. Confirm insert tip seating and torque the tip retention screw per the KSEM system tooling guide before initiating a cut.
