The KENNAMETAL 1606884 is a replaceable-tip drill body in the KSEM series, designed for precision hole-making in metal cutting applications. It accepts KSEM0734 series inserts at an insert seat size 2, allowing the carbide tip to be swapped without scrapping the body. The drill covers a diameter range of 18.64 to 19.14 mm (0.7339 to 0.7535 inches) and reaches a maximum drill depth of 100.08 mm (3.94 inches), representing a 5xD depth-to-diameter ratio. Through-coolant capability is built in via a 3.50 mm (0.138 inch) internal coolant passage, keeping cutting temperatures under control and aiding chip evacuation at depth. Machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and CNC operators working in production environments are the primary users.
This drill body is suited for use in CNC machining centers, lathes with live tooling, and dedicated drilling machines where consistent, repeatable hole diameters in the 18.64 to 19.14 mm range are required. The 5xD capability makes it appropriate for deeper hole applications where solid carbide drills would be cost-prohibitive to replace. A straight-cylindrical shank of 19.05 mm diameter seats directly into standard collet chucks or hydraulic toolholders. The KSEM platform is a common choice in automotive, aerospace, and general metal-fabrication production cells where insert changeability reduces per-hole tooling cost.
The 1606884 body is compatible with KSEM0734 series replaceable drill-tip inserts at insert seat size 2 within the KSEM platform.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be brought to a full stop and the machine locked out before mounting or removing the drill body from the toolholder. Insert seat surfaces should be cleaned and inspected for damage before seating a new KSEM0734 tip; a contaminated or damaged seat will affect hole accuracy and can cause premature insert failure. Verify that through-coolant supply pressure and flow rate at the machine spindle are sufficient before running at depth.
