The KENNAMETAL 1604705 is a DNMG432FF turning insert in the KT315 cermet grade, designed for precision finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The insert features a multilayer PVD coating consisting of TiN, TiCN, and TiN layers applied over a cermet substrate, delivering high wear resistance across all three primary workpiece material categories. It carries a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a negative rake geometry. Machined under ANSI and ISO standards, the 1604705 is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring where tight tolerances and fine surface finish are required.
This insert is engineered for finishing-class applications in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. The FF chip breaker geometry manages chip flow effectively at light depths of cut, making it well suited for final-pass operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces where surface integrity matters. The KENLOC series designation indicates compatibility with lever-and-pin style toolholders. It is applicable in both production shop and job-shop environments where P, M, and K material categories are routinely machined.
Designed for use with KENLOC series toolholders that accept DNMG-style inserts secured by clamp and pin holding method. Compatible with toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code DNMG432 and ISO insert code DNMG150408. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces (ISO material codes P, M, and K).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Verify that the toolholder pocket and clamping components are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Secure the insert using both the clamp and pin as intended for KENLOC-style holders to ensure proper seating and prevent micro-movement during cutting. Dispose of worn cutting edges in accordance with applicable shop safety and sharps-handling procedures.
