The KENNAMETAL 1601656 is a solid carbide turning insert with the industry designation TNMG332FF, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process. It belongs to the KENLOC series and is designed for finish-turning operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. The KC5010 grade delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it well suited for demanding finishing passes. Key dimensional specs include a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and an insert length of 0.6495 inches. The 60-degree triangular shape provides six usable cutting edges, extending tool life between changeovers.
This insert is used in external turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and manual turning centers across production and job-shop environments. The FF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts at shallow depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). Neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right- and left-hand tool holders designed for TNMG-style inserts. It is suitable for light-to-moderate material removal on primary workpiece materials coded P, M, K, N, and S under ISO classification. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in metalworking and machining environments are the primary installers.
Designed for KENLOC-series and standard TNMG-style tool holders that accept TNMG332 (ANSI) or TNMG160408 (ISO) inserts using clamp-and-pin holding methods. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed away from the cutting zone before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp to avoid micro-movement during the cut. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new edge.
