The KENNAMETAL 1560389 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying ANSI designation CCGT2151HP and manufacturer grade KC5410. It features a TiB2 (titanium diboride) PVD coating engineered for high wear resistance when cutting non-ferrous metals and aluminum. The insert has an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, producing a free-cutting action suited to finishing operations. With a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and an HP chip breaker geometry, it is designed for light, precise material removal. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert in screw-on style toolholders for turning, facing, and boring applications.
This insert is intended for finishing cuts on non-ferrous metals, primarily aluminum and similar materials in the N material grade category. Its positive side clearance and honed cutting edge reduce built-up edge and surface tearing on soft, gummy alloys. The CCGT form factor is commonly used in both production turning centers and manual lathes where tight dimensional tolerances and fine surface finishes are the priority. The insert accommodates a maximum depth of cut of 0.049 inches (1.25 mm), confirming its role as a finishing rather than roughing tool. It is a multi-use tool applicable to turning, facing, and boring operations within that depth-of-cut range.
Designed for use in screw-on style CCGT toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code CCGT2151 and ISO insert code CCGT060204. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals and aluminum. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 0.110-inch (2.80 mm) screw hole diameter and C-style 80-degree diamond insert geometry.
This insert is installed by machinists or CNC technicians using the appropriate screw-on torx or hex key to seat the insert securely in the toolholder pocket. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is removed or locked out before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation, as contamination will affect insert seating and dimensional accuracy. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended screw torque procedure to avoid cracking the carbide substrate.
