The KENNAMETAL 1545200 is a spiral point tap designed for threading 1/2-13 UNC holes in production and job-shop environments. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life in moderate-to-abrasive materials. The plug chamfer allows the tap to be used in through-hole applications, distributing the cutting load across the lead threads for smoother thread formation. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, preventing chip packing in blind or through holes. Overall length is 3.375 inches with a thread length of 1.656 inches and a shank diameter of 0.367 inches.
This tap is suited for threading ferrous materials including cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel. It is appropriate for general machining, maintenance and repair operations, and production threading in CNC or manual tapping equipment. The 3-flute design and spiral point geometry make it especially effective in through-hole applications where chip evacuation forward is acceptable. The H3 thread limit and Class 3B fit designation make it appropriate for close-tolerance threaded assemblies requiring a controlled fit.
Designed for threading cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces in through-hole 1/2-13 UNC applications. Compatible with standard straight-shank tapping chucks, floating tap holders, and CNC rigid tapping setups accepting a 0.367-inch shank diameter.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the tapping head or holder is properly aligned with the pre-drilled pilot hole before engagement to prevent tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material, particularly when threading stainless steel. Power down or lock out the machine spindle before changing or inspecting taps.
