The KENNAMETAL 1542084 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in a bottoming configuration. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent thread formation in cast iron and non-ferrous metals. The tap features a 2-flute straight-flute geometry and carries a Class 2B thread fit with an H3 thread limit, providing controlled tolerance for standard fastener assemblies. Overall length is 2.38 inches with a thread length of 0.875 inches and a shank diameter of 0.194 inches. It is suited for manual tapping operations and belongs to the Kennametal Series 5305 and 5303 product families.
This tap is intended for use in light manufacturing, maintenance, and repair applications where threads must be cut close to the bottom of a blind hole. The 10-32 UNF thread size is common in instrumentation, electronics enclosures, and light mechanical assemblies. Bottoming chamfer geometry allows the tap to thread nearly to the full depth of a blind hole, making it the correct choice when thread engagement close to the hole bottom is required. Applicable materials include cast iron and non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, and copper alloys.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use hand tap for 10-32 UNF bottoming applications in cast iron and non-ferrous metal workpieces. Part of KENNAMETAL Series 5305 and 5303.
Machining professionals and maintenance technicians should secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and use a properly aligned tap wrench to maintain perpendicularity with the hole. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent binding in blind holes. Follow applicable shop safety procedures when working with rotating cutting tools.
