The KENNAMETAL 1541555 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in cast iron and non-ferrous metals. It features a bottoming chamfer, making it suitable for threading close to the bottom of blind holes where a standard or plug chamfer cannot reach full thread depth. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap is ground to an H3 thread limit and carries a Class 2B fit tolerance. With a 2-inch overall length and an 11/16-inch thread length, it fits standard tap holders used in manual and machine tapping operations. Licensed metalworking technicians and machinists are the primary installers.
This tap is intended for threading 6-32 UNC holes in production and maintenance machining environments. Its two-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for through-hole and shallow blind-hole applications in cast iron and non-ferrous materials such as aluminum and brass. The bottoming chamfer allows the tap to reach full thread form closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a plug or taper style tap. It is commonly used in light manufacturing, MRO shops, and precision assembly operations where 6-32 machine screw threads are required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production tap for 6-32 UNC threading applications in cast iron and non-ferrous metal workpieces. Compatible with standard straight-shank tap holders sized for a 0.141-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed by machinists or metalworking technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC machine tool holder. Before tapping, ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the correct tap drill size for a 6-32 UNC thread has been used. Always back the tap out periodically to clear chips when working in blind holes. Do not force the tap beyond the thread length capacity of the tool, as HSS taps are susceptible to breakage under torsional overload.
