The KENNAMETAL 1541500 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting 8-32 Unified National Coarse (UNC) internal threads in through-hole and bottoming applications. Built from bright, uncoated high-speed steel (HSS), it delivers reliable thread-cutting performance in cast iron and non-ferrous metals. The bottoming chamfer geometry allows threading to the bottom of a blind hole with minimal clearance. With an overall length of 2.13 inches and a thread length of 0.75 inches, this is a compact tap suited for standard machine screw thread work. Class of fit is 2B with an H3 thread limit, meeting typical fastener assembly tolerances for general mechanical and production applications.
This tap is used in machining, maintenance, and repair environments where 8-32 machine screw threads are required in cast iron or non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, brass, and copper alloys. Its right-hand, 2-flute straight-flute design makes it straightforward to use in hand-tapping operations with a standard tap handle or T-handle wrench. The bottoming chamfer makes it the appropriate choice when threaded depth in a blind hole must be maximized. It is offered under Kennametal Series 5305 and 5303.
Designed for cutting 8-32 UNC internal threads in cast iron and non-ferrous metals. Part of Kennametal Series 5305 and 5303. Intended for hand-tapping operations requiring a bottoming chamfer with a 2B class of fit and H3 thread limit.
This tap is installed by machinists, tool and die workers, and maintenance technicians using a standard tap handle or T-handle wrench. Always secure the workpiece and apply appropriate cutting fluid before beginning the tapping operation. For blind holes, clear chips frequently to prevent binding and potential tap breakage. Power down any associated machinery and follow shop safety protocols before hand-tapping operations in a production environment.
