The KENNAMETAL 1536224 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation SDET1204PDERGB in manufacturer grade KC520M. Designed for face and shoulder milling operations, this square-profile insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection in demanding cutting environments. It measures 0.1875 inches thick with a 0.6610-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0315-inch corner radius. The 15-degree relief angle and 5-degree rake angle are suited to controlled chip formation in hard materials. Licensed HVAC, machining, and metalworking professionals install these inserts in compatible milling toolholders as part of production or maintenance machining work.
This insert is engineered specifically for machining cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material group K. The right-hand cutting orientation and GB chip breaker geometry support consistent chip evacuation during face milling, shoulder milling, and related operations on ferrous castings. It is appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes where cast iron components require precise material removal. The screw-in holding method provides secure clamping in standard SDET-series toolholders. Typical applications include production machining of automotive and industrial cast iron parts where tool life and surface finish consistency are priorities.
Designed for use in SDET-series milling toolholders that accept square inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and screw-mount retention. Insert size code 43 applies. Compatible with material grades C1 and C2. Verify toolholder specifications against ISO designation SDET1204PDERGB before installation.
Milling insert replacement is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Disengage and lock out the machine spindle before handling inserts to prevent injury from sharp edges. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination in the pocket can affect runout and insert life.
