The KENNAMETAL 1533938 is a replaceable-tip drill body in the KSEM series, designed for precision hole-making in metalworking and machining applications. It accepts KSEM0634 inserts at an insert seat size of 1, allowing tip replacement without scrapping the body. The drill covers a diameter range of 16.09 to 16.6 mm and reaches a maximum drill depth of 89.92 mm at a 5xD depth-to-diameter ratio. Through-coolant delivery via a 3.5 mm coolant hole keeps the cutting zone clear and helps manage heat during deep-hole drilling operations. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, production facilities, and tool rooms are the primary users of this body.
This drill body is suited for medium-depth hole drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar machinable metals on CNC machining centers and lathes equipped with coolant-through spindles. The straight-cylindrical shank at 19.05 mm diameter mates directly to standard ER or hydraulic toolholders of the appropriate bore size. The 5xD depth capability makes it a practical choice for through-holes and blind holes in structural components, hydraulic manifolds, dies, and similar workpieces where a replaceable-tip design reduces tooling cost versus solid carbide drills.
Designed for use with KSEM0634 replaceable-tip inserts at insert seat size 1 within the KENNAMETAL KSEM series modular drill platform. The straight-cylindrical shank suits toolholders bored to 19.05 mm.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Confirm the toolholder bore matches the 19.05 mm shank diameter and that coolant-through capability is active at the spindle before use. Torque the insert tip according to the KENNAMETAL KSEM series tooling assembly instructions provided with the insert - do not use values from other series. Verify runout after assembly before beginning the cut.
