The KENNAMETAL 1530245 is a DFT-series indexable insert drill engineered for general-purpose drilling in metal-cutting applications. The body is constructed of steel and accepts two DFT-style inserts, size code 0302, secured with M2-04x4.8 T6 insert lock screws. The drill delivers a maximum drill depth of 1.64 inches at a 2.5xD depth-to-diameter ratio, covering drill diameters up to 0.806 inches (20.47 mm). A 3/4-inch Weldon Flat and Flange shank provides rigid, positive engagement in the spindle. Coolant-through capability is supported via axial concentric entry and 1/8-27 threaded coolant ports at both the body side and shank end, enabling effective chip evacuation and heat management during deep drilling cycles.
This indexable drill is suited for CNC machining centers and turning centers in job shop, production, and general manufacturing environments. The right-hand cutting direction and Weldon Flat shank make it a direct fit for standard toolholders used in ferrous and non-ferrous metal drilling. The 5-inch overall length and 3-inch body length position it for intermediate-reach applications on vertical and horizontal machining centers where rigidity and insert accessibility are both priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers and service personnel for this tooling.
Compatible with DFT drill style toolholders. Takes DFT-style inserts, compatible insert size code 0302 (DFT0302.). Insert lock screw size is M2-04x4.8 T6. Designed for use in standard 3/4-inch Weldon Flat and Flange shank toolholders on CNC machining centers.
Installation and insert changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the spindle powered down and the machine in an e-stop or locked-out state per facility LOTO procedures. Confirm the toolholder bore and drive flat dimensions match the 3/4-inch Weldon shank before mounting. Torque insert lock screws using the correct T6 Torx driver to manufacturer specification; do not substitute driver sizes, as this can strip the screw head or damage the insert seat. Verify coolant port connections are clear and sealed before resuming cutting operations.
