The KENNAMETAL 1528367 is a steel-body indexable insert drill from the DFT series, designed for general-purpose drilling in metal-cutting applications. It accepts two DFT-style inserts and drills to a maximum depth of 4.1 inches at a 2.5xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The drill body measures 1.625 inches in diameter with a 1.25-inch straight shank featuring a Weldon flat and flange configuration. Right-hand cutting direction and axial concentric coolant entry through the body make this drill suited for high-productivity hole-making in production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this tooling.
This indexable insert drill is built for use on CNC machining centers and manual mills where consistent, repeatable hole quality is required. The 2.5xD depth ratio makes it appropriate for moderate-depth drilling operations in steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. Compatible insert size code is 0704, and the body incorporates through-coolant capability to support chip evacuation and tool-life management at production feed rates. The overall tool length of 9.125 inches suits standard spindle nose-to-work clearance requirements on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Compatible with DFT-style indexable drill inserts sized 0704 (DFT0704. insert series). Designed for use with standard Weldon flat and flange-style toolholders accepting a 1.25-inch shank diameter. Insert lock screw specification is M3.5-0.6x12 T15.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is at a full stop and all energy is locked out before loading or removing the drill body from the toolholder. Torque the Weldon flat clamping screws per the toolholder manufacturer specifications and verify insert seating before running. Confirm coolant line connections at the 1/8-27 body port or 1/4-18 shank port are leak-free before initiating a cut.
