The KENNAMETAL 1528319 is a DFT-series indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication and machining environments. It accepts two DFT05T3 indexable inserts and produces holes up to 1.125 inches in diameter at a maximum drill depth of 2.5 inches (63.5 mm), yielding a 2.5xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The tool body is constructed from steel with a Weldon Flat and Flange shank configuration. Coolant-through capability is built in, with axial concentric entry at the drill tip and threaded ports at both the body side and shank end. This drill is installed and operated by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC machining centers and manual drilling machines.
This indexable insert drill is suited for production drilling applications in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where consistent hole diameter and depth repeatability are required. The 1-1/4 inch straight shank with Weldon Flat and Flange mounting provides secure tool retention in standard toolholders. The DFT insert platform uses the DFT05T3 insert size code, and insert geometry selection is determined by the workpiece material and required surface finish. Typical applications include structural steel, die and mold work, and general machining operations where spade or twist drills are being replaced for improved productivity.
Compatible with DFT-style indexable inserts using insert size code DFT05T3. Insert lock screw specification is M3-0.5x7.2 T9. Body side coolant hole thread size is 1/8-27 inch and shank end coolant hole thread size is 1/4-18 inch. Designed for use in toolholders accepting a 1-1/4 inch straight shank with Weldon Flat and Flange interface.
Installation and insert changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the Weldon flat set screw is properly engaged before operation. Coolant lines should be connected and verified for flow before running at full feed and speed. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and insert manufacturer recommendations for cutting parameters; do not exceed the rated drill depth for this tool body.
