The KENNAMETAL 1527700 is a steel-body indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling applications in metal cutting and machining operations. Built on the DFT series platform, it accepts two DFT0303 indexable inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 2.187 inches at a 2.5xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The drill body measures 22.2mm (0.950 inches) in cutting diameter with an overall length of 6.625 inches. A 1-inch Weldon flat and flange shank provides secure, positive location in the spindle. Coolant-through capability is included, with axial concentric entry at the shank end and a body-side port for effective chip evacuation and tool life at the cutting zone.
This indexable drill is suited for general-purpose through-hole and blind-hole drilling on CNC machining centers and drill presses where indexable tooling replaces solid carbide or brazed-tip drills. Typical applications include production drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials. The 2.5xD ratio makes it well matched to moderate-depth holes where rigidity and insert support are priorities. The right-hand cutting direction and straight Weldon shank are standard for horizontal and vertical spindle setups.
Compatible with DFT-style indexable inserts using insert style code DFT0303 and compatible insert size code 0303. Insert lock screw specification is M2.5-0.45x5.9 T8. Shank-end coolant hole thread size is 1/4-18; body-side coolant hole thread size is 1/8-27. Designed as a DFT series replacement or upgrade for applications currently using equivalent 22.2mm indexable insert drills with a 1-inch straight shank.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the drill body. Seat the Weldon flat shank fully into the holder and torque the retention screw to the holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect and replace indexable inserts according to the insert manufacturer's wear guidelines; never run a fractured or excessively worn insert. Confirm coolant-through lines are clear and pressure is adequate before cycling the machine.
