The KENNAMETAL 1527664 is a DFT-series indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling applications in metal cutting environments. It accepts two DFT0302 indexable inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 1.6 inches at a 2.5xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The body is constructed from steel with an overall length of 5.875 inches and a flute length of 1.6 inches. A 1-inch Weldon Flat and Flange shank with a 3-inch shank length provides secure tool holding in compatible drill chucks and holders. Coolant-through capability with axial concentric entry supports chip evacuation and tool life in production drilling operations. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and tooling technicians in CNC machining and manual drilling setups.
The 1527664 is suited for general-purpose drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a replaceable-insert platform reduces tooling cost per hole. The 2.5xD ratio accommodates moderate-depth bores without step drilling. With a maximum drill diameter of 0.775 inches (19.81 mm) and a body length of 2.875 inches, this drill fits standard tool turrets and spindle interfaces on CNC lathes, machining centers, and drill presses configured for 1-inch straight shank tooling. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. The DFT insert platform uses size code 0302 inserts, allowing field insert changes without replacing the drill body.
Compatible with DFT-style indexable drill inserts, insert size code 0302 (DFT0302.). Designed for use with 1-inch straight shank tool holders equipped for Weldon Flat and Flange drive. Insert lock screw specification is M2-04x4.8T6.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Confirm the spindle and tool holder are fully de-energized and at rest before changing inserts or mounting the drill body. Secure the Weldon Flat shank fully into the holder to the recommended engagement depth per the holder manufacturer before torquing set screws. Verify coolant line connections at the designated thread ports before initiating a cut to ensure through-tool coolant flow is active.
