The KENNAMETAL 1522947 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation TCGT32505LF and manufacturer grade KC5010. It features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The insert is 60-degree triangular in shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, making it well suited for finishing and light machining operations. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches, insert length is 0.6496 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0079 inches. Three cutting edges are available per insert, and the screw-on holding method provides secure, repeatable positioning in compatible toolholders.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes, producing controlled chips and consistent surface finishes at lower depths of cut. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). Typical end users include machinists and tooling technicians working on CNC lathes and turning centers in production or job-shop environments. The KC5010 grade is specified for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, covering primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Designed for use in screw-on style TCGT-compatible toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium workpieces per grade KC5010 specifications.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench and clamping screw to seat the insert securely in the pocket — do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper edge presentation.
