The KENNAMETAL 1522106 is a DFT-series indexable insert drill engineered for production drilling in steel and general-purpose machining applications. The body accepts two DFT06T3 inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 6 inches at a 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio. Shank diameter is 1.5 inches on a Weldon Flat and Flange straight shank, giving secure tool holder engagement in standard milling or drilling setups. Coolant is delivered through the body via axial concentric entry, with a 1/4-18 inch threaded coolant hole at the shank end. Overall tool length is 11.625 inches. At 4.44 pounds, the tool is machined from steel and sized for through-coolant use in vertical or horizontal machining centers.
The 1522106 is suited for residential-shop and industrial production environments requiring repeatable hole diameters up to 1.625 inches in diameter. The 4xD configuration handles depths in the 5 to 7 inch range, making it appropriate for deep-hole work in block, plate, and manifold drilling operations. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. Insert style DFT with size code 06T3 locks in via M3.5-0.6x8.3 T15 Torx screw, enabling fast insert changes at the machine without removing the body from the spindle.
Compatible with DFT-style indexable inserts, insert style code DFT06T3, insert size 0.260 x 0.148 inches (6.62 x 3.75 mm). Designed for use in machining centers or drill presses with 1.5 inch straight-shank Weldon Flat and Flange tool holders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before mounting or removing the drill body. Secure the shank fully into the tool holder to the recommended engagement depth per the holder manufacturer before torquing set screws. Insert lock screws require a T15 Torx driver; replace inserts when wear or chipping is visible and do not attempt to regrind indexable inserts.
