The KENNAMETAL 1517238 is a replaceable-tip drill body designed for deep-hole drilling in metalworking applications. It accepts KSEM0625 insert tips and is built to the KSEM series standard, offering a drill depth-to-diameter ratio of 8xD. The 19.05 mm Weldon Flat shank provides positive rotational drive in compatible tool holders, while through-coolant delivery via 1/8-27 NPT ports at both the body side and shank end keeps cutting edges cool and evacuates chips effectively. Overall length is 209.55 mm with a flute length of 143.04 mm. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians install this body as part of a modular drilling system on CNC machining centers and lathes with live tooling.
This drill body is suited for medium-to-deep hole applications in ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where consistent, repeatable hole diameter is required. The replaceable-tip design allows the cutting insert to be indexed or swapped without removing the drill body from the spindle, reducing downtime in production environments. It handles a drilling depth range of 125 mm to 160 mm, placing it in a versatile range for structural components, mold work, and general machining. The Weldon Flat shank seats in standard side-lock holders commonly found on vertical machining centers and horizontal boring mills.
Compatible with KSEM0625 series replaceable tip inserts at Insert Seat Size 1. Designed for use in the KENNAMETAL KSEM modular drill system. Fits standard Weldon Flat side-lock tool holders with a 19.05 mm bore.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or turret is in a safe, locked position before handling the drill body. Confirm through-coolant supply connections match the 1/8-27 NPT thread specification at both coolant ports before pressurizing the system. Torque the insert tip per the KENNAMETAL KSEM assembly documentation supplied with the insert, and verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing production drilling.
