The KENNAMETAL 1314840 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT3252LF geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and graded KC5010. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a sharp, positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, making it well-suited for finishing and light machining operations. The LF chip breaker geometry promotes efficient chip control at lighter depths of cut. With a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches) and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is engineered for high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is designed for use in external turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Its neutral hand orientation gives it flexibility across a range of tool holders. The KC5010 grade targets high wear-resistance to moderate toughness performance in steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous (N), and superalloys and titanium (S) workpiece categories. It is a screw-on style insert retained by a single central mounting hole. The ANSI insert code is DCMT3252 and the ISO insert code is DCMT11T308.
Compatible with screw-on style DCMT tool holders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for DCMT3252 (ANSI) and DCMT11T308 (ISO) insert geometry. Suitable for steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous (N), and superalloy and titanium (S) workpiece materials. Material grades C3 and C4 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the screw-on mounting screw — refer to the tool holder manufacturer specifications for proper torque values. Inspect the tool holder pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before seating the insert to ensure accurate positioning and to prevent premature edge failure.
