The KENNAMETAL 1310951 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT21505LF geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and offered in the KC5010 grade. This insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a positive rake and side clearance configuration. The KC5010 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance paired with adequate toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. The insert measures 7.75 mm in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a corner radius of 0.0079 inches, making it well suited for finishing and light machining operations on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications in production and job-shop environments. It targets primary workpiece materials classified as steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous (N), and superalloys and titanium (S). The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). Machinists and CNC operators working in precision turning environments will find this insert suited to applications demanding consistent surface finish and tight tolerances.
Designed as an OEM-style screw-on replacement insert for toolholders accepting DCMT21505 geometry inserts conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the screw-on insert securely against the toolholder pocket without overtightening. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
