The KENNAMETAL 1310948 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT332LF geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process using the KC5010 manufacturer grade. It is designed for single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes across ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a honed cutting edge, and a screw-on holding method. With 2 cutting edges per insert and an LF chip breaker, it delivers controlled chip formation during finishing and semi-finishing passes. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades do not install this part — it is used by machinists and CNC operators in metal-cutting applications.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. It is optimized for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes P, M, and S). The LF chip breaker geometry is intended for light finishing cuts and close-tolerance work. The KC5010 grade with PVD TiAlN coating provides wear resistance and edge stability in these demanding material families. Secondary workpiece material codes include N, P, and S. This insert conforms to ANSI and ISO standards and carries the industry standard number VBMT332LF.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement or standard supply insert for screw-on VBMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 35-degree diamond insert. Conforms to ANSI and ISO VBMT332LF standards. Material grades C3 and C4.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the screw-on clamp to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or wear before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
