The KENNAMETAL 1256866 is a replacement wedge designed for use with ATBI series indexable boring bars. Wedges secure the cutting insert in the toolholder pocket, maintaining precise positioning under the cutting forces generated during internal diameter machining operations. This component is a consumable hardware item that wears or is lost during routine insert indexing. Machinists and tool crib technicians working with KENNAMETAL ATBI boring bar toolholders should keep replacement wedges on hand to minimize downtime during insert changes.
This wedge is intended for use in metal cutting environments where ATBI series boring bars are used for internal turning and boring operations. It is suited for both production shop and job shop settings running CNC turning centers or manual lathes equipped with compatible KENNAMETAL indexable boring bar toolholders. Replacement of worn or lost wedges restores proper insert clamping and helps maintain dimensional accuracy in bored features.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL ATBI series indexable boring bar toolholders. Confirmed compatible toolholder styles include: ATBI-1000-4, ATBI-375-1 1/2, ATBI-500-1 1/2, ATBI-500-4, ATBI-625-4, and ATBI-750-4.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians during insert indexing or toolholder maintenance. Ensure the boring bar is removed from the machine spindle or turret and all machine motion is stopped before servicing the toolholder. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder design to seat the wedge and clamp the insert securely. Do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can damage the wedge or insert seat.
