The KENNAMETAL 1199229 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill designed for precision hole-making in demanding materials. Built to DIN 6537L standards, it features a 6.10 mm (0.2402 inch) cutting diameter, a 130-degree standard point, and a three-flute regular spiral geometry with web thinning for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust. The bright, uncoated finish suits applications where coating adhesion to the workpiece could be a concern. The straight cylindrical shank measures 8 mm in diameter and seats securely in standard chucks and collet holders. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users of this drill.
This drill is rated for cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The three-flute design improves feed rates and surface finish compared to standard two-flute jobber drills, making it well suited for production drilling and repetitive-cycle CNC machining operations. The tapered web configuration and web-thinned geometry reduce walking at entry and support accurate positioning without a center-drill pre-operation in many setups. Maximum drilling depth is 43.00 mm (1.6929 inches), with a flute length of 53.00 mm (2.0866 inches) providing clearance for chip evacuation beyond the maximum depth.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills accepting an 8 mm straight cylindrical shank. Suited for production drilling in cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloy workpieces per the manufacturer specification.
Install in a collet chuck or end-mill holder rated for the 8 mm shank diameter and verify runout before production use, as carbide drills are sensitive to lateral load caused by excessive runout. Power down the spindle and confirm zero RPM before changing tooling. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machine-guarding requirements when operating drilling equipment. Avoid interrupted cuts or side loading, which can chip a carbide cutting edge.
