The KENNAMETAL 1198188 is a CCMT-style cermet turning insert with an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and a KT315 multilayer PVD coating consisting of TiN, TiCN, and TiN layers. It is designed for finishing operations on CNC and manual lathes across turning, facing, and boring applications. The insert features a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a 7-degree relief angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. With two cutting edges per insert and a screw-on holding method, it delivers high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible toolholders as a precision finishing tool.
This insert is suited for finish-turning operations in light-to-moderate material removal applications where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. The cermet substrate with PVD multilayer coating makes it particularly effective on steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), and cast iron (ISO K) workpieces. Chip breaker style 11 with a honed cutting edge supports controlled chip formation at finishing depths of cut. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The positive side clearance geometry reduces cutting forces, making this insert appropriate for both rigid and semi-rigid setups.
Designed for use in CCMT-compatible screw-on toolholders for turning, facing, and boring applications. Suitable for primary workpiece materials coded ISO P (steel), ISO M (stainless steel), and ISO K (cast iron). Material grades C3 and C7 apply. Multi-use turning insert per ANSI size code 3251 and ISO size code 09T304.
Installation is performed by a licensed machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Secure the insert using the appropriate screw-on torque tool to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris before installation, as contamination can affect insert seating and surface finish results.
