The KENNAMETAL 1184078 is a solid carbide milling insert in the LFEW series, designed for high-performance milling applications in demanding machining environments. It carries the ISO designation LFEW220464ERLN and features a multilayer PVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and TiN for extended tool life and thermal resistance. The insert measures 0.6252 inches wide and 0.1875 inches thick, with a corner radius of 0.2520 inches (6.40 mm). It is a right-hand configuration with a 90-degree included angle, zero rake angle, and a 25-degree relief angle. The LN chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during milling passes. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians using a screw-holding method.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material grades P, M, and S, as well as material grades C5, C6, and C7. It is appropriate for use in both roughing and finishing milling operations where consistent edge performance and coating durability are critical. The LFEW series geometry is commonly applied in face milling, shoulder milling, and similar operations on CNC machining centers. Its PVD-coated carbide substrate provides performance across a range of cutting conditions encountered in production environments.

This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer, and ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications, as over- or under-torquing the screw can cause insert movement or pocket damage.
