The KENNAMETAL 1183482 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENDEX series, designed for precision metal cutting in lathe and CNC turning applications. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. The insert is coated via CVD with a multilayer TiC, TiCN, and TiN stack, providing moderate wear resistance and toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The flat-top chip breaker geometry, positive rake, and positive side clearance make this insert suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators working with steel and stainless steel in production environments.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, as well as special and super alloys. The KC850 grade with CVD multilayer coating addresses moderate to demanding cutting conditions where a balance of wear resistance and toughness is required. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible setup in standard CPG-style toolholders. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). Applications span both roughing passes at shallow depths and general-purpose finishing on a variety of ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials.
Designed for use in CPG-style insert toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 80-degree diamond (C-shape) insert with clamp-style holding. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for insert geometry (ANSI CPG421, ISO CPG120304). Compatible with turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and stainless steel as primary workpiece materials, with secondary suitability for cast iron and special alloys.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamp per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert seating and cutting edge condition before resuming operation; do not use an insert that shows chipping, cratering, or edge deformation.
