The KENNAMETAL 1183327 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENDEX series, designed for external and internal turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the ANSI designation TPGF221 and ISO designation TPGF110304, with a 60-degree triangular shape, positive rake, and positive side clearance. The multilayer CVD coating stack of TiC, TiCN, and TiN delivers the grade KC850 balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. With three cutting edges per insert and a sharp cutting edge style, this insert is built for medium machining applications where tool life and edge consistency are critical.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, and is also rated for use on special and super alloys. It targets ISO material groups P, M, K, and S as primary workpiece categories. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm) and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch), it performs well in medium-depth finishing and semi-finishing passes. It is installed with a screw-holding method, making it compatible with standard positive-style insert toolholders that accept TPGF-geometry seats. Licensed machinists and CNC technicians at job shops, production facilities, and maintenance shops are the primary installers.
Designed for use in TPGF-style positive insert toolholders accepting ANSI size code 221 inserts. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations across ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. Conforms to both ANSI and ISO insert geometry standards as noted in supplier data.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC technicians using the screw-clamping method standard for this insert geometry. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before torquing the clamping screw. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification for the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate.
