The KENNAMETAL 1183314 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG323 geometry, part of the KENDEX series. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, which delivers a balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness suited to interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert measures 16.5 mm (0.6496 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 3/64-inch (0.0469 inch) corner radius. The 60-degree triangular shape provides three usable cutting edges, and the flat-top chip breaker geometry with a positive rake angle and honed cutting edge style makes this insert well suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations on steel and stainless steel.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and select superalloys. Its ANSI insert code TPG323 and ISO insert code TPG160312 align with standard toolholders that accept TPG-style inserts with a clamp holding method and positive side clearance. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making it best suited for lighter material removal passes rather than heavy roughing. Machinists and CNC programmers working in job shop or production environments will find this insert appropriate for general-purpose external and internal diameter operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct application insert for standard TPG-style toolholders using a clamp holding method, conforming to ANSI insert code TPG323 and ISO insert code TPG160312.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for debris or wear before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and prevent premature edge failure.
