The KENNAMETAL 1183069 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG323 geometry, part of the KENDEX series. It carries a TiN coating applied via PVD process, delivering high wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle and positive side clearance, giving three usable cutting edges per insert. The flat-top chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge style make it suitable for finishing and light-to-moderate material removal applications. Licensed HVAC techs, machinists, and tooling specialists sourcing carbide inserts for CNC turning, facing, and boring operations will recognize the TPG form factor immediately.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. The KC730 grade targets high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance with toughness across P, M, and K workpiece material classifications. It fits standard TPG-style insert pockets and clamp-style toolholders. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), it is suited to light finishing passes rather than heavy roughing. The KENDEX series positioning makes it a go-to insert for precision turning where surface finish and tool life on difficult materials are priorities.
Designed for use in clamp-style toolholders accepting TPG-style inserts. Compatible with workpiece materials classified as steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and superalloys and titanium (S) per ISO material group designations. Conforms to ANSI insert code TPG323 and ISO insert code TPG160312.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians on CNC or manual turning centers. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct clamp screw torque driver recommended by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten by hand or with general-purpose tools, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper seating and accurate tool-offset registration.
