The KENNAMETAL 1183066 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG style, part of the KENDEX series. It carries a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating and is designed for single-point turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert has a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, an 11-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge. With a 3/8-inch (0.375 inch) inscribed circle and a corner radius of 0.0039 inches, it is built for finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge geometry and wear resistance are the primary concerns. The KC730 grade targets steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium, offering high to moderate wear resistance combined with appropriate toughness across those material families.
This insert is suited for machining steel (P-class), stainless steel (M-class), and cast iron (K-class) workpieces in production turning environments. Typical applications include external and internal diameter turning, facing, and light boring on CNC turning centers in both job-shop and production settings. The flat-top chip breaker geometry and positive side clearance make it a practical choice for general-purpose turning work where consistent tool life and surface finish are required. It conforms to ANSI insert code TPG3202 and ISO insert code TPG160301, which simplifies cross-referencing with toolholder specifications.
Designed for use in TPG-style clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI size code 3202 and ISO size code 160301. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before installing a new insert, as a compromised pocket will affect edge life and surface finish. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidelines and do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for this insert geometry.
