The KENNAMETAL 1183063 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG221 geometry, designed for precision single-point turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and conventional lathes. Manufactured under the KENDEX series, this insert features a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiN coating applied over a carbide substrate, delivering high wear resistance with moderate toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The triangular insert shape provides three usable cutting edges, and the flat-top chip breaker geometry supports a positive rake angle for clean chip formation. At 11 mm in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, this insert is suited to finishing and light semi-finishing passes at shallow depths of cut.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, as well as cast iron. The KC730 grade targets high to moderate wear resistance with adequate toughness, making it appropriate for production environments where tool life consistency across these material groups is a priority. The neutral hand orientation accommodates standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders where neutral inserts are specified. It is clamp-held using a TPG-style toolholder and is compatible with applications requiring ANSI insert code TPG221 or ISO insert code TPG110304.
Compatible with toolholders specified for ANSI insert code TPG221 and ISO insert code TPG110304. Clamp-held TPG-style toolholders with a positive-rake seat are required. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials per the KC730 grade specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or indexing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before each insert change. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert geometry, as overloading a flat-top insert at aggressive parameters can cause edge fracture.
