The KENNAMETAL 1183018 is a solid carbide triangular milling insert designed for high-performance material removal in demanding cutting applications. Manufactured to ISO code TPGN160308T and ANSI code TPG322T, this insert features a TiAlN PVD coating applied over the carbide substrate, providing thermal resistance and wear protection during interrupted or continuous cuts. The insert measures 0.3750 inches inscribed circle diameter, 0.6496 inches in length, and 0.1252 inches thick. With three cutting edges, a positive rake geometry, and a T-Land cutting edge style, it delivers controlled chip formation at the tool-workpiece interface. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is engineered for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and S. The KC725M grade places it in material grades C5, C6, and C7, making it suitable for a broad range of cutting conditions from semi-finishing to light roughing. The flat-top chip breaker geometry and neutral hand orientation support versatile mounting in compatible TPGN-series toolholders. It is appropriate for both production shop and job-shop milling environments where consistent edge life across difficult workpiece materials is required.
Designed for use in TPGN-series screw-clamped milling toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle triangular insert. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes P, M, S).
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Verify the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert to prevent improper contact and premature edge failure. Use the manufacturer-specified screw torque range for the toolholder series — do not over-torque the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the cutting edge condition at regular intervals and index or replace the insert before catastrophic edge failure occurs.
