The KENNAMETAL 1180917 is a solid carbide milling insert with ISO designation SDET1204PDSRGB, designed for high-performance metal removal in milling operations. It features a square insert shape with a 90-degree included angle and a 0.0315-inch (0.80 mm) corner radius. The insert is coated with a tri-layer TiN/TiCN/TiN PVD coating applied over the KC725M carbide grade, which targets steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials. The screw-in holding method and right-hand orientation make it compatible with standard SDET-style toolholders. Licensed machinists and tooling technicians install this insert in indexable milling cutters used in CNC and manual milling applications.
This insert is suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.5000 inches and an inscribed circle of 0.5000 inches, it handles moderate to aggressive material removal in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. The GB chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across the P, M, and S material grade classifications, making it a practical choice for job shops and production environments running a range of ferrous and high-temperature alloy workpieces.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for SDET-series indexable milling toolholders accepting a size 43 insert with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter and a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, the spindle must be powered down and the machine placed in a locked-out, tagged-out state per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and edge security.
