The KENNAMETAL 1163407 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the DPGR432 geometry, coated via CVD process and offered in the KC850 manufacturer grade. It carries a parallelogram (diamond) shape with a 55-degree included angle, an 8-degree relief angle, and a 5-degree positive rake angle. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches (12.70 mm), thickness is 0.1875 inches (4.76 mm), and the corner radius is 0.0312 inches (0.79 mm). This insert is clamped into compatible Top Notch series toolholders and is designed for use by machining professionals and CNC lathe operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for profiling and turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces, covering ISO material groups P and M, corresponding to material grades P30, P40, M30, and M40. The neutral hand orientation and common chipbreaker geometry make it a versatile choice for general-purpose contouring passes, finish turning, and light roughing on CNC lathes and manual engine lathes where Top Notch series tooling is in use. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.2035 inches. The insert delivers two cutting edges per piece, helping extend tool life per unit cost in moderate-to-high production cycles.
Designed for use in Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders accepting the DPGR432 insert style. ISO equivalent designation is DCGR150408. Compatible standards include DPGR432 and DCGR150408.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate clamp key for the Top Notch toolholder to secure the insert seat; do not overtighten the clamp screw beyond the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Always verify insert orientation and seating before resuming cutting operations.
