The KENNAMETAL 1163382 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision material removal on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It carries the NPR132 insert style with a KC850 manufacturer grade applied via CVD coating process. The insert features a parallelogram shape with a 55-degree included angle, a negative rake geometry at 10 degrees rake angle, and four usable cutting edges, making it an efficient choice for high-production turning and profiling operations. At 0.1875 inches thick with a 0.0312-inch corner radius, it delivers controlled, repeatable cuts in demanding machining environments. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for profiling and turning applications on steel and stainless steel in both roughing and semi-finishing contexts, corresponding to ISO material codes P and M, and material grades P30, P40, M30, and M40. The screw-holding method provides secure clamping in compatible Top Notch toolholders. Its right-hand orientation and parallelogram geometry make it appropriate for external turning and contour profiling passes where consistent edge geometry is critical to part quality.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders accepting NPR132F style inserts. ISO code equivalent is KNGX150408R20. Compatible with applications on steel and stainless steel workpiece materials (ISO P and M classifications).
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid seat damage or insert fracture. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow your facility's lockout/tagout procedures before any tooling change on CNC or manual lathes.
